Controls Engineer
CONTROLS ENGINEER
Summary/Objective:
The controls engineers will oversee the production of various types of equipment and systems. They will research, test, and analyze ideas for possible system and process improvements. They may design layout, materials and information flow, or machine placement. They may also be responsible for increasing production efficiency by evaluating performance and proposing and implementing improvements.
Essential Functions:
· Troubleshoot and eliminate control systems issues and handle controls projects.
· Develop new control and monitoring systems.
· Extend start up support and training for control and monitoring systems.
· Create and execute wireless communication systems for manufacturing.
· Interface with equipment vendors and contractors to troubleshoot and resolve startup issues.
· Develop and document new PLC control systems from concept to qualification.
· Understand process control issues and develop control solutions.
· Troubleshoot problems with current PLC control systems.
· Reverse engineer current systems and programs for performing failure recovery.
· Reply to downtime events impacting production.
· Troubleshoot control systems wiring and PLC logic.
Competencies:
· Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing systems and products.
· Excellent math skills: ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems.
Required Education and Experience:
· BS in Manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or similar field
· Advanced mathematic skills required
· Proficient in computer-aided design and drafting software
Preferred Education and Experience:
· 3-5 years’ experience in product development
· Training in CAD software and technology

Electrical Design Engineer
ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Summary/Objective:
This position is responsible for producing electrical designs for various types of automation equipment. They will be responsible for testing, selecting, and sourcing electrical components as well as integrating the components into electrical schematics and panel layouts. They will be responsible for assisting with questions or issues that arise in the panel build and equipment wiring phases. They will be required to work closely with controls engineers, mechanical engineers, and technicians to ensure high-quality and robust equipment is produced.
Essential Functions:
· Test, select, and source electrical components
· Create electrical schematics and panel layouts
· Answer questions pertaining to panel build and equipment wiring
· Troubleshoot and solve any wiring issues
· Create supplementary documentation for the electrical design as needed
· Communicate with controls engineers, mechanical engineers, and technicians
· Complete projects on-schedule and within the budget while exceeding customer expectations
· Communicate schedule updates and project status with the project management team
· Attend training and trade shows, as needed, to stay on top of the latest control’s technology
· Be able to objectively evaluate new suppliers and products
· Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers
Preferred Education and Experience:
· Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or similar field
· 3+ years of electrical design experience
· Willing to work hands on
· Ability to work well in a team
· Computer literate
· Experience with Microsoft Office products
· Good communication skills
· Panel design experience
· Proficiency using electrical schematic design software, AutoCAD Electrical preferred

Laser Applications Engineer
LASER APPLICATIONS ENGINEER
Summary/Objective:
The laser applications engineer assists in the daily operations of Photon’s applications team. The laser applications engineer will be involved in configuring and operating industrial laser systems, instrumentation and associated robotic systems. The laser applications engineer will examine methods to test and improve processes related to customer material samples. This may include manipulation of robotics, configuration of laser and optical systems, programming vision systems, working with diagnostic equipment and providing written reports of their findings. The engineer will be involved in design reviews relating to laser systems and will be included in meetings and demonstrations with clients.
Essential Functions:
· Build and align laser components.
· Build, align and test delivery systems, and configure beam conditioning devices.
· Build, characterize and test electrical and mechanical assemblies.
· Calibrate, maintain, and assemble test and production equipment.
· Troubleshoot product performance issues and work with engineering to solve problems and implement product and manufacturing improvements.
· Work with inspection and vendors to assure component specification compliance.
· Support engineering to production transition efforts for new products.
· Generate assembly process flows and work instructions.
Competencies:
· Familiarity with operating precision manufacturing systems.
· Ability to understand and execute engineering protocols/procedures.
· Experience with data collection, analysis, and visualization.

Laser & Applications Specialist
LASER & APPLICATIONS SPECIALIST
Summary/Objective:
The laser & applications specialist will work on an R&D team within an applications lab to provide high quality experimental planning and work in the development, evaluation, and characterization of processes for production. The laser & applications specialist reports to the senior director of research and development.
Essential Functions:
· Assist in identifying, designing, and implementing experimental development programs needed to evaluate and characterize new processes.
· Assist with carrying out process technology transfers from client companies into Photon.
· Assess manufacturing processes supplied by client companies for suitability and identify any scale-up requirements/issues.
· Assist with preparing reports and presentations for internal and external use in a suitable and professional manner.
· Work safely and in accordance with Photon polices and keep up to date with any emerging issues.
· Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments which may impact on the technologies involved in the processes being developed.
· Assist with configuring lab applications for job-shop projects.
Competencies:
· Firm grasp on how to work in a research and development lab.
· Extensive industrial laser welding experience required.
Preferred Education and Experience:
· MS or PhD. in related field
· 10+ years of experience in laser based processing management preferred
· Background in materials engineering, electronics, machine or manufacturing technology
· Experience with CAD/CAM, CNC or robotic workstation programming

Mechanical Engineer
MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Summary/Objective:
The mechanical engineers will work throughout the conceptual stage, the design process, the testing phase, and production. Using the principles and knowledge of mechanical structures, electronic systems and the forces of motion, this person ensures quality and purpose in all materials.
Essential Functions:
· Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new products
· Develop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of new designs
· Generate working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration

Project Manager
PROJECT MANAGER
Summary/Objective:
The project manager is responsible for planning, overseeing and leading projects from ideation through to completion. Requires interaction with a range of internal and external stakeholders, most often managing several moving project parts simultaneously.
Essential Functions:
· Ensure projects meet deadlines.
· Review and maintain project budget.
· Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.

Technician
TECHNICIAN
Summary/Objective:
The technicians will assemble machines, install electrical wiring, and complete installation for all company projects. In this position, you will work with contractors, builders, and engineers, and will install and maintain complex machines.
Essential Functions:
· Uses assembly instructions, print specifications, and parts lists; gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
· Positions parts and subassemblies by using templates or reading measurements.
· Assembles components by examining connections for correct fit; fastening parts and subassemblies.
· Verifies specifications by measuring completed component.
· Resolves assembly problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications.
· Notifies supervisor to obtain additional resources as needed.
· Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
